10 Ways to calm and reduce anxiety

No one should have to live with anxiety. But anxiety isn’t something you can simply cure in an instant. You need some type of treatment plan that will break the effects of anxiety so that you can live a happier, more relaxed life.

The following options are the most common and highly effective ways. Learn How To Calm And Stop Anxiety Attacks With Therapy:

1. Hydrate

Drinking enough water can effectively reduce the occurrence of panic attacks. When a person is dehydrated, cells relay this state of deficiency to the brain which can intensify feelings of anxiety and lead to a panic attack.

2. Drink herbal teas

You can literally drink your way to calmness and relaxation. The menthol contained in peppermint tea is a natural muscle relaxant while passion flower tea helps induce a peaceful sleep.

3. Eat nutritious, healthy foods

Studies have shown that some foods make us feel calmer while other foods have a direct effect on the nervous system. Making some changes to your diet may help relieve your symptoms. Try adding foods that contain vitamin B like beef, chicken, and leafy greens as well as Omega 3 rich foods like salmon and tuna.

4. Avoid caffeine

People consume coffee and caffeinated drinks to help boost their energy levels. The problem is that caffeine is believed to reduce levels of serotonin in the brain which in turn makes you feel depressed and irritable.

5. Avoid Alcohol

People turn to alcohol to reduce anxiety but the effectiveness is short lived. In the long run, alcohol is a depressant. Like coffee, alcohol dehydrates your body and as previously mentioned, dehydration can increase anxiety.

6. Use natural anti-anxiety supplements

Studies have confirmed that a deficiency of certain vitamins may cause anxiety. It is definitely recommended that you add Magnesium since it affects nerve health and blood, B-vitamins (especially B12) and 5-HTP because it helps fuse serotonin and melatonin.

7. Do daily meditation

Meditation helps by quieting an overactive mind and can be an effective anxiety management tool. With regular meditation, the mind begins to experience itself without being consumed by anxious thoughts.

8. Practice deep breathing

Many people who suffer anxiety breathe too fast and shallow. It is a good idea to learn slow and deep breathing techniques as this can relieve anxiety and prevent you from having a panic attack.

9. Do stretching exercises – eg pilates

Life is full of distractions, stress, and chaos. It is believed that physical exercise reorganizes our brain to better respond to stress and lowers levels of anxiety. Pilates doesn’t only transform your body but it also clears your mind and gives you inner peace and tranquillity.

10. Do daily walks

Walking can actually make a very real difference in your ability to cope with anxiety. Not only does it provide a significant amount of sensory distraction but it changes the way you breathe. The more you walk, the more your body creates carbon dioxide naturally, which is needed to prevent panic attacks.
